There was a time when soul music did more than top the charts. It carried a people. On December 5, that story takes the stage in Houston.

The Anderson Center for the Arts presents An Evening of Elegance: A Motown Christmas, “When Soul Told the Story.” It is a 90-minute mixed-media production unlike anything we’ve brought to the stage before. Through song, dance, live music, and dramatic vignettes, Houston’s own performers trace the sound that defined a generation. The show moves from Motown classics to gospel, from jazz to the R&B holiday favorites your family still plays every December.

This is more than a show. It is a celebration of Black history and culture, and an offering of gratitude for the gift of creativity. It is also a night when our community comes together in its finest.

The evening begins long before the curtain rises. There are red carpet arrivals, live music throughout the building, a visit from Black Santa, and a Cocoa Bar to warm you up.
